Day 4: Another World War (1939-1945)

Day 4: Another World War (1939-1945)

At the end of the 1930s, the world has been shaken once more by the start of another World War (WWII). World War Two started on the 1st of September, 1939 when an army from Germany invaded a country called Poland. Two days later, England and France declared war on Germany and WWII began.

Activity 1: An Eventful Experience
WWII was made up of many battles and events. Follow this link to read more about the timeline of WWII.

Choose two key events and find out some more information about what happened on those days. On your blog, write a short summary of two events, including the names of people involved and where the event happened.

1. 27th September 1939 ~ Germans take Warsaw

The Siege of Warsaw in 1939 was fought
between the Polish Warsaw Army (Armia Warszawa)
It began with huge aerial bombardments initiated by the Luftwaffe
starting on September 1, 1939 following the Nazi invasion of Poland.
The siege lasted until September 28, when the Polish garrison, commanded
under General Walerian Czuma, officially capitulated.

2. 14th March 1939 ~ German troops occupy Prague
The German occupation of Czechoslovakia (1938–1945) began
with the German annexation of Czechoslovakia's northern and western
border regions. German leader Adolf Hitler's pretext for this action was the
alleged privations suffered by the ethnic German population living in those
regions. The occupation ended with the surrender of Germany following
World War II.

  1. Kia Ora Annalisa,

My name is Jordan and I'm the Kootuitui (Papakura, Auckland) cluster manager. Alongside Billy, I have the pleasure of commenting on your blog!
Thank you for providing us with two key events that happened during WWII; I enjoy your mention of The Siege of Warsaw (1939). It's so crazy that it took 27 days until Poland yielded.
I even begin to imagine what those 27 long days would have felt like.

Do you enjoy any other part of history?

I look forward to your answer :)

    Cheers,

    Jordan
