Activity 2: Offering a Helping Hand

Activity 2: Offering a Helping Hand
During this period, people struggled to find work both here at home and overseas. It was a really tough time for people living in the Great Plains of the United States because they were hit with a huge drought that lasted for most of the decade. Many crops were damaged and farmers were not able to make enough money to feed their families.

Imagine that you were alive in the 1930s. What could you have done to help these families? On your blog, list three different ways that you could raise funds for families to help them buy food and clothing. Be as creative as you can with your fundraising ideas!

  • I would do a fundraiser, making food and sell it. Sell clothes you can't fit anymore or things you don't need.
  • I would ask around if people needed help. For example: Washing cars, windows, cleaning the house, etc. But for every chore you do you get about 5 dollars.
  • A school fundraiser. On Mondays everyone has to bring a gold coin and if they don't have a gold coin a can of food.

  1. Hello Anna-lisa,

You have some great ideas for fundraising. I especially like the idea of helping out for money because you are helping someone to earn some money to help someone else.

    Keep up the Fantastic work!

  4. Hi there Annalisa,

You've come up with some brilliant fundraising ideas. Well done! They are all really easy to achieve too. For the first idea, what kind of food will you make and sell?

I was thinking about having a garage sale, a car wash, a lemonade stand, a performance night, a raffle.

There a lots of ideas. Have you ever been involved with a fundraiser of some sort? I've helped out with a sausage sizzle before, that was really fun because you know you're doing something good to help people.

    Thanks, Billy
